Sweden tops the WMR 100 for the second time ever as Winona Oak takes the last #1 of February moving up from #4 with Fragile Thing. She’s joined in the top three by fellow podium first-timers Barbara Pravi (up from #11 to #2) and KEiiNO (up from #7 to #3), while XOV and Fletcher round out the top five.

Enisa has been a regular presence for the first year of existence of the WMR 100, with four songs featured on the list to date, and this week it’s finally her time to claim the #1 spot with her single Whatcha Waiting For. She’s joined in the podium by fellow American Fletcher, who reaches a new personal best at #2 with Eras of Us while her other song on the list, Lead Me On, begins its climb up the list after being a new entry last week; while newly unseated number 1 Olivia Lunny slips down to #3 with Heartbreak on Repeat. Winona Oak and Paloma Faith round out the all-female top five.

Back in 2023 she spent three weeks stuck at #2 with Timezone without ever claiming the top spot, but this time around there will be no such ‘Heartbreak’ for Olivia Lunny! The Canadian singer scores her first WMR 100 #1 in 2024 with Heartbreak on Repeat, seeing off tough competition from the likes of Enisa (up seven places from #9 last week to claim silver) and Smash into Pieces (who stay put at #3). Last week’s #1 Diodato and Fletcher (who also joins the Double Feature Club with her new entry Lead Me On coming in at #92) round out the top five.

And this week, the Italian musician claims victory and gets to plant his nation’s flag at the top of the WMR 100, seeing off strong competition from the likes of Olivia Lunny (once again at a #2 spot she is already familiar with) playing her Heartbreak on Repeat and Smash into Pieces‘ Venom (moving up one spot to #3). Last week’s #1 Rêve (now dropping down to #4) and Blind Channel round out the top five.

We now continue our countdown of the songs that made the most impact on the WMR 100 list in 2023 with the top ten biggest tracks of the year. If you want to read part 1 before proceeding, you can do so right here.
We used the Crownnote leaderboard to calculate the placements, with a weekly #1 awarding 10,000 points, a #100 awarding 1,000 points, and in between, points for the nth placing are calculated dividing 10,000 by the square root of n and rounding.

New year, new WMR 100 #1! After featuring regularly in the list with multiple songs off their album Heartbeat Highway through 2023, Cannons kick off 2024 by finally reaching the top spot with Crush. Their love song unseats the last #1 of 2023, Jung Kook, who slips down to #2 with Standing Next to You, while Ukraine’s Go_A fly up nine places from #12 to take the bronze medal spot with their latest track Dumala. Lena and Sofía Reyes round out the top five.

2023 is in the books, the first year in the history of World Music Rankings and, by extension, the WMR 100 list is now over, and before moving on fully to 2024, feels like a good moment to take a look at some of the tracks that have been among our favorites of the year, as the numbers reflect.
Therefore, we present part one of the top 20 WMR 100 songs of 2023, a year-end ranking calculated using the points system of Crownnote, in which the song in the nth position of a list receives an amount of points resulting from dividing 10,000 by the square root of n, with which the #1 song in a weekly list receives 10,000 points, #2 receives 7,071, #3 receives 5,774 points, and so on until, in our specific case, #100, which awards 1,000 points.

The end of the year is coming up, and on the last Friday of 2023, Jung Kook claims his and South Korea’s first WMR 100 #1 with his hit single Standing Next to You. The BTS performer sees off tough competition for the final #1 of the year from Cannons (up three places to #2), Sebalter (staying put at #3), last week’s #1 Dua Lipa (now down to #4) and Lena (up three to #5) to claim the crown for the week. What new challengers will emerge in 2024?

She said it herself: catch her or she goes Houdini. Dua Lipa escapes the competition this week to claim her first ever WMR 100 #1 after missing out in the summer with Dance the Night, which peaked at #6 back in June. She dethrones SIDEPIECE‘s On My Way, which slips to #2 this week, while Jung Kook climbs up four places to #3 and scores his new personal best with Standing Next to You, becoming the first South Korean act to reach the top five of our list in the process. Rounding out the top five are Slimane‘s Mon amour at #4 and Sebalter‘s Better Things at #5.
