  • 2023 is in the books, the first year in the history of World Music Rankings and, by extension, the WMR 100 list is now over, and before moving on fully to 2024, feels like a good moment to take a look at some of the tracks that have been among our favorites of the year, as the numbers reflect.

Therefore, we present part one of the top 20 WMR 100 songs of 2023, a year-end ranking calculated using the points system of Crownnote, in which the song in the nth position of a list receives an amount of points resulting from dividing 10,000 by the square root of n, with which the #1 song in a weekly list receives 10,000 points, #2 receives 7,071, #3 receives 5,774 points, and so on until, in our specific case, #100, which awards 1,000 points.

She dethrones SIDEPIECE‘s On My Way, which slips to #2 this week, while Jung Kook climbs up four places to #3 and scores his new personal best with Standing Next to You, becoming the first South Korean act to reach the top five of our list in the process. Rounding out the top five are Slimane‘s Mon amour at #4 and Sebalter‘s Better Things at #5.

This week, we welcome to those ranks Dylan Ragland and Ricky Mears, the American house duo known collectively as SIDEPIECE, who lay claim to our #1 spot with their track On My Way, which features vocals by Moroccan-Canadian singer Faouzia (who already achieved a WMR 100 #1 on her own with La La La back in September). They are joined on the podium by Dua Lipa and Lord of the Lost, both of whom move up two places from #4 and #5, respectively, to claim this week’s silver and bronze. Rounding out the top five are last week’s number 1 Daniela Spalla at #4 and Slimane, moving up five places from #10 to claim fifth place.

  • December is here, and it means WMR’s first year is close to ending. Through 2023, we have seen artists from several countries claim the top spot of the WMR 100, and we start the last month of the year adding a new country to that list: Argentina. Daniela Spalla becomes the first Argentine act to reach the #1 of our weekly list, plus the first to do so with a Spanish-language song, with La carta, single off her latest album Dara. She is joined on the podium by SIDEPIECE and Faouzia, who inch closer to the top by moving up a spot from #3 to #2 with On My Way, and last week’s #1 LPS, who drop to #3 with Insomnia. Dua Lipa and Lord of the Lost round out the top five.
